Faisal Shahzad, the "Times Square Bomber", has been sentenced to life in prison.
Shahzad was born in Pakistan and later became a U.S. citizen. He went back to Pakistan for explosives training with a terrorist group. The group later sent him money.
On May 1st, Shahzad went to Times Square in New York City. He drove a used van he had just bought. In the van was a bomb. Shahzad parked the van and tried to set off the bomb from a distance. It didn't go off -- but people saw smoke and called the police.
Two days later, Shahzad tried to escape to Dubai. He was arrested at the airport.
He pleaded guilty to 10 charges.
New York Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly says, "It's only right that Faisal Shahzad forfeit [give up] his freedom for life after trying to forfeit the lives of innocent New Yorkers forever."
