A police officer in Laredo, Texas, has been found guilty of planning to move cocaine and use a gun to do it.
Orlando Jesus Hale went on trial after another policeman, Pedro Martinez, pleaded guilty to the same crimes. Martinez testified against Hale.
The evidence at the trial showed: Hale and Martinez met with an undercover FBI agent posing as a drug dealer. They said they could lead cars full of cocaine across the city. They would use their police radios to keep track of police cars and stay away from them.
The two policemen did this on November 13th, 2008. Each car they took had 20 kilos of fake cocaine. They were given $1,000 each for this.
Later, Martinez said, Hale asked him if he knew anyone who wanted their car "stolen". The idea was to take the car to Mexico and sell it. The owner would get money from their insurance company, and no longer have to make payments on the car. Hale and Martinez would get paid. They are said to have done this twice.
