A man has been arrested in Kosovo on charges of helping people in the U.S. plan terrorist acts. The U.S. is asking for him to be extradited (sent to the U.S. for trial).
Bajram Asllani, also known as Ebu Hatab, is connected to eight people in North Carolina who were charged last year with planning to help terrorists. Most were U.S. citizens. One, Hysen Sherifi, was from Kosovo and lived in the U.S.
The charge says Sherifi went to Kosovo in 2008 and met Asllani. It says they worked together on several plans for jihad. For example, Asllani gave Sherifi videos he could translate to encourage jihad. The charge says Asllani also had contact with other members of the group.
At the time, Asllani had already been arrested by Kosovar police. He had been ordered to stay in his house. Later, a Serbian court sentenced him to eight years for planning terrorist acts.
If Asllani is extradited, he will be tried in Raleigh, North Carolina.
