April 8th, 2007, is Easter Sunday. Christians celebrate their belief that Jesus rose from the dead.
Rabbits, eggs, and flowers are all symbols of Easter. They stand for new life.
In many countries, people color eggs for Easter. Children are given candy on Easter morning. Some small children believe this is brought by the Easter Bunny, a magical rabbit. This story was brought to North America by German immigrants.
Passover is an important Jewish holiday that began at sunset on Monday, April 2nd, 2007. Jews celebrate their ancestors' escape from slavery in Egypt. Families gather to eat a special meal. They read the story of their people in Egypt.
Some parts of the meal are: bitter herbs (a symbol of the slaves' hard lives), an egg (a symbol of spring), and a mixture of apples and nuts (a symbol of the bricks the slaves made).
