Monday, May 19th is Victoria Day. Canada celebrates the birthday of Queen Victoria, head of state from 1837 to her death in 1901.

Victoria was also Queen of England and several other countries. Her birthday, May 24th, became a holiday in Canada. It is now celebrated on the Monday before the 24th.
Many Canadians call this time "the May long weekend". It is considered the beginning of summer.
