Memorial Day, 2008, is on Monday, May 26th. On this day, the last Monday in May, the U.S. remembers Americans who died in wars.
Many Americans also think of it as the beginning of summer.
Why is it celebrated at this time of year? Memorial Day began as "Decoration Day", a time when people would decorate the graves of soldiers from the Civil War (1861-1865). The day was not the same in every town, but it always took place at a time when there were lots of flowers for the graves.
