Father's Day falls on June 15th (the third Sunday in June) this year. The U.S., Canada, and many other countries use this day to honor fathers.
When Mother's Day became popular in the U.S., many people thought there should be a day to honor fathers, too.

A woman named Sonora Dodd worked to plan an early Father's Day in 1910. She wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran who had raised his six children alone after his wife died.

People send their fathers cards and gifts for this day. A common cliché is that everyone buys their fathers ties for Father's Day because they can't think of anything else.
