Do you know what to do in a tsunami?
Here is advice from the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency.
n Know the words used for different levels of danger. Listen to the radio or watch TV for news.
n Sometimes, just before a tsunami, the water moves far away from the shore. If this happens, move away from the shore to higher ground.
n If you are on the shore and feel an earthquake, go inland. Then check the news for a tsunami warning. Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes in the ocean.
n If the waves are small, remember: the next one may be much bigger.
n Remember also: it may not be over after just one wave.
n Don’t watch the shore for a tsunami. If you can see the wave, it’s too late to escape.
n Be ready to get out. Plan in advance where to go, how to get there, and what to take.
